Hi All,
We have fantastic news to report from the weekend’s Brisbane International Tether Car Championships with a new 10 cc Class V world record (on the heavy 2.1 mm cable) by Estonia’s Tonu Sepp at 348.432 km/hr! Tonu’s earlier run of 346.753 km/hr may also have been enough for the record had he called time one lap later (lap one 337 vs lap eight at 349 km/hr) but his Sunday speed sealed it. Congratulations to Tonu – a well-deserved champion and ambassador of our hobby.
Minor placings in 10 cc were Natalia Bach (Switzerland) at 332.042 km.hr and QMRCC President Rob Buckley 331.064 km/hr.
Class IV 5 cc had a new entrant in the form of Tonis Sepp running his Dad’s “old” car! After two years away from the track the car managed 310.398 km/hr to take the win followed by Scott Clydesdale at 305.550 km/hr and John Walker 296.735 km/hr. Urs Bach had some bad luck with a spectacular blow up ‘ventilating’ the side of his crankcase.
The Class III saw some fast laps over 282 km/hr, but not enough strung together to record ‘good’ speeds. Rob Buckley took the win at 267.857 km/hr followed by Scott Clydesdale at 247.831 km/hr.
Rain Teder had great runs with both his 1.5 cc cars, showing some laps at the current world record and taking the win with a speed of 263.466 km/hr. He was followed by Sweden’s Anders Martinelle (257.069 km/hr) and Natalia Bach (178.802 km/hr).
The local class was under-represented from the usual strong field due to various members’ absences due to travels and recuperation. Graeme Walker took the win at 191.774 km/hr closely followed by Kevin Harvey in second place at 188.225 km/hr. It was also great to see brand new member Will Rudd taking third place with his recently acquired car.
Finally, Graeme also took the double securing the nominated speed trophy with a 0.226 km/hr gap to his nominated. Scott Clydesdale took second (0.581 km/hr) and Anders Martinelle third (0.931 km/hr).
Thanks must go to Kevin and Jill for organising the awesome catering for the three-day event. Thanks also to all the horsers and timekeepers (including Melissa Buckley who dropped by to assist on the race days), and to John Ford for machining the Grevillea (timber) pens that were presented to the visitors attending the event.
We’re already planning the 2026 Brisbane International event, so consider visiting for a run on the fastest track in the world!
Cheers,
Scott Clydesdale
